The Council Tool Wood-Craft Camp Carver is a compact, American-made bushcraft axe designed for camp chores, green woodworking, carving and detailed axe work. Combining the heritage of traditional North American rigger's axes with the bearded axes of Northern Europe, it's a versatile tool built to be used hard in the woods.
Made in the USA from tough5160 steel and fitted with a premium16-inch curved hickory handle, the Camp Carver strikes a careful balance between the power of an axe and the control of a carving hatchet. Small enough to carry on a pack or belt, yet capable of tackling serious camp work, it's an excellent choice for bushcrafters, campers, woodcarvers and anyone who appreciates a properly made axe.
The Camp Carver isn't an axe that needs to be kept pristine. It's designed to be taken into the woods, used around camp and put to work.
Itsswept toe, 4-inch cutting edge, flat-ground bevel and bearded blade provide excellent control for carving, shaving and detailed woodworking. A carefully shaped radius beneath the hammer poll allows you to choke right up behind the axe head, placing your hand close to the cutting edge for greater precision.
When more power is needed, the full 16-inch handle provides the leverage for splitting kindling, processing firewood and tackling everyday camp chores.
The hardened poll can be used as a hammer for driving wooden stakes and other appropriate camp tasks. It also helps balance the axe head and provides additional leverage when choking up for detailed carving work.
A crisp90-degree spine can be used for scraping tinder and striking a ferro rod, adding another genuinely useful bushcraft feature to an already highly capable camp axe.
The curved premium hickory handle is based on a vintage pattern and features a generous palm swell for a secure, confident grip. The large hatchet eye adds strength and durability, while the handle profile remains comfortable when gripping close to the axe head for carving and controlled cuts.
At approximately 16 inches long, the Camp Carver is compact enough to carry on a belt, attach to a pack or keep in a vehicle or tool box. A welted leather mask is included to protect the cutting edge when not in use.
