Karesuando Hatchets

Karesuando Axes and Hatchets

Karesuando is located 250km north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland. The village was founded with its first permanent house in 1670. Reindeer husbandry is one of the area's most important industries.

The knives and hatchets crafted by Karesuando are adapted to the barren Arctic climate, northern lights and midnight sun. There are two sizes of Karesuando hatchet, the Stoera Aksu (large hatchet) and the Unna Aksu (small hatchet). Both embody the timeless elegance of the Sami people who have been making knives and axes in this style for hundreds of years and are equal parts high performance tool and work of art.

The components used in these hatchets are first and foremost selected to be relied upon in this environment, whilst giving the user a tactile experience that is second to none.
