About the Steel

The blade is made from tough, hard wearing Sleipner steel that has a high carbon content which makes the blade durable in hard working situations, such as batoning. The steel composition enables the blade to be tempered to a high hardness, whilst retaining its ability to deform without breaking. The chromium content ensures a high level of corrosion resistance compared to other carbon steel blades. A cryogenic hardening process enhances all of the favourable characteristics and lends itself to achieving a very sharp edge.
