This is a fine piece of handcraft made in the Swedish part of Lapland inspired by the traditional Sami style of coffee bag.
It is an ideal pouch for storing fire lighting materials or similar smaller items to be placed in a rucksack. It is a fine piece of traditional handcraft; the characteristics of the reindeer leather make it ideal for outdoor purposes. It is durable whilst still being light weight.
The bag is made from 1.2 mm fully vegetable tanned (bark tanned) leather from freely grazing reindeer in Lapland. Vegetable tanning gives the leather a natural water repelling effect and is better for the environment than chromium tanning.
The indigenous Sami people from Lapland traditionally used (and still use) leather bags made from their reindeer to store meat, coffee, salt and flour. For any trip outdoors this bag is therefore also an ideal size for bringing meat, salt or coffee.
This handmade reindeer leather storage bag is light but durable and hard wearing.
