The iconic Stetson Open Road represents the ultimate mix of western heritage and modern versatility.

The Stetson Open Road hat, often referred to simply as the "Open Road," is an iconic piece of American headwear that epitomises the rugged charm of the American West. With its distinctive cattleman crown and wide brim, the hat has become synonymous with the frontier spirit and cowboy culture and remains one of the most recognisable American cowboy hats.

Introduced in 1937, the Open Road was originally sold with an open crown, which could then be creased to the customer’s liking. Since 1948, it has been finished with a traditional, hand-pressed cattleman crease, and has been worn by modern pioneers and trailblazers ever since. Its design was intended to provide ample protection from the sun and the elements while maintaining a classic and stylish silhouette. The hat's name, "Open Road," evokes the sense of freedom and adventure associated with the open expanses of the American West.

Stetson Hats

Over the years, the Stetson Open Road hat has been worn by a wide range of famous individuals, further solidifying its status as an iconic piece of Americana. Western film stars like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood often wore the hat in their roles, helping to romanticize the cowboy image and perpetuate its enduring appeal. Musicians such as Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson also sported the Open Road hat, further cementing its association with the outlaw country and Americana music scenes.

One of the key factors contributing to the enduring popularity of the Stetson Open Road hat is its exceptional craftsmanship and quality. Made from premium materials such as fur felt or straw, each hat is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring durability and longevity. Stetson's commitment to tradition and heritage has helped maintain the hat's reputation as a symbol of American craftsmanship and authenticity which continues in this hand crafted summer weight version.

How do I find my hat size?

Take a measuring tape and place it at the back of your head. Next, draw both sides of the tape to the front, just above the ears and over the eyebrows, bringing it together roughly in the middle of your forehead. Please be careful not to pull the tape measure too tight. You can now use a mirror to read off your head circumference.

We recommend rounding up the number you see to the next full centimetre (e.g. round 57.5 cm up to 58 cm).
